A Lucky Girl’s Life: How to Prevent and Help Cure Hangovers
A fun night of too much drinking certainly has its price the next day. The real reason you feel like crap is because alcohol dehydrates you and depletes you of essential vitamins and minerals. The main thing you want to do is keep your body well hydrated by drinking the adequate amount of water for your body weight. A good rule of thumb is 4 ounces for every 10 pounds of your weight. That is the magic number per day to drink. When you are exercising and outdoors on hot days, up your intake. If you have been vomiting or have had diarrhea than you may want to consider some other options so you can balance your electrolytes.
Pre-Party Tips:
- Start drinking water before you go out.
- Take vitamins B & C; also consider prickly pear extract, which are known to help prevent hangovers.
- Eat foods that are high in fiber to absorb and slow alcohol from reaching the blood stream. Fatty foods will delay absorption; so will dairy, so enjoy a little cheese.
Party Girl Tips:
- Drink water in between alcohol to keep hydrated.
- Choose lighter color alcohol, which are more filtered and less likely to make you feel bad.
- Stay away from the bubbly. Champagne and carbonated drinks can really give you a banging headache.
- Don’t mix your drinks; stick with the same and drink in moderation. Drink shots and you will feel like you got shot in the morning.
Post Party Tips:
- Drink Pedialyte to re-balance minerals and electrolytes.
- Re-hydrate with water or real fruit juice.
Consider Eating These Foods:
- Ginger for nausea
- Crackers to raise blood sugar level
- Eggs because of serotonin to feel better and cysteine helps with a headache.
- Tomatoes are high in Vitamins B & C. Water content also helps to replenish hydration.
- Apples or asparagus will help you to metabolize alcohol.
- Chicken soup is not just good for the soul, it’s excellent for a hang over. It hydrates you, helps your liver and a headache.
- Try sauerkraut. It’s easy on the stomach to fight nausea, replaces electrolytes and it’s high in Vitamin C.
- Quinoa is rich in protein so it can help fight fatigue and a loss of appetite.
