Berlin’s 2nd Friday Art Stroll to Focus on Berlin Public Art Mural and Student Artists
When springtime rolls around we are itching to get outdoors to enjoy all that Delmarva has to offer, including the area events and monthly art strolls! Berlin Arts & Entertainment has done a terrific job of keeping us entertained throughout the colder winter months, but we sure are looking forward to some spring art strolls! We’re in the middle of a near-perfect week of weather, which means Berlin is primed for a fantastic 2nd Friday Art Stroll for the month of March. What’s more, this month’s art stroll is focused entirely on youth artists! It’s one of our favorite 2nd Friday events that the town puts on, as students from Buckingham Elementary get the chance to shine in the spotlight.
It’s Youth Art Month in the Town of Berlin, which means artwork will be on display in the town’s stores and restaurants for the entire month of March. Students from Buckingham Elementary will be represented, with artists featured this Friday during the 2nd Friday Art Stroll. Also featured this month is Phase 1 of the Berlin Public Art Mural! Berlin Arts & Entertainment teamed up with renowned mural artist John Donato to make a public art mural for the town. 2nd and 3rd grade students from Buckingham Elementary have been hard at work on the project, learning about the town’s history in order to incorporate it into the mural.
“The idea of a community mural has been in the works for a few hears now” said Berlin Economic & Community Development Director Ivy Wells. “I feel extremely proud to be a part of helping to make it happen. This project turned out to be much more than a mural…a truly inspirational and heartwarming experience. We can’t wait to raise the funds and continue with the other panels.”
Phase 1 of the project will be unveiled during Friday’s Art Stroll. Berlin Arts & Entertainment will feature a visual display in the lobby of the Visitor’s Center (14 S. Main Street) from 3pm until 6pm, with the official unveiling of Phase 1 of the mural at 5:30pm. A reception will immediately follow, but we suggest taking the rest of the evening to stroll through town to enjoy the shops and restaurants that stay open later for 2nd Friday Art Strolls. Bungalow Love will be hosting AnnaRoma Soaps, Sea La Vie will be celebrating their grand re-opening, and the newest addition to Berlin, the Berlin Printery and CFD Fine Jewelry is hosting an Opening Night event at their new studio on Main Street. Watch prints being run though a nearly 100 year old letterpress, see the behind the scenes action in both print and jewelry design, and enjoy a few treats courtesy of Baked Dessert Café! Our article on the new shop will be up tomorrow (March 9) so be on the lookout for more details!
Spring is less than two weeks away, which means the Town of Berlin’s lineup of events is just getting started! Spring Celebration, May Day Play Day, Spring Cruisers, Movies in the Park, Concerts on the Lawn, and the High Heel Race are just a few of the events we’ll be looking forward to attending as spring and summer roll into town.
