Big Turnout for St. Pat’s Boardwalk 5K
OCEAN CITY- With picture-perfect weather and big crowds in town for the holiday weekend, the St. Patrick’s Day Boardwalk 5K last Saturday was a huge success with nearly 1,000 runners participating in the event.
Sponsored by OC Tri-Running, the St. Patrick’s Boardwalk 5K last Saturday drew 965 runners from all over the country for the annual race that has become a fixture in recent years on parade day. The course began on the Boardwalk at 4th Street not far from the main sponsor Shenanigan’s. From there, the flood of runners headed south on the Boardwalk around the Inlet pier and the Inlet parking lot and around the tram station.
The course then headed north on the Boardwalk to a turn-around at 16th Street before heading south again to the finish line at 4th Street and Shenanigan’s. Runners and their fans then gathered for a post-race celebration and awards ceremony at the finish line. For the record, Charles Wood of Pasadena finished first, followed by Scott Nolt of Lancaster, Pa. in second and Scott Mooney of Baltimore in third.
Local competitors finishing in the Top 50 included Brian McCullough, Ocean City (7th); Sean Rolleston, Berlin (13th); Sara Mandes, Ocean City (17th); Pete Mohammadioun, Bishopville (19th); Joe Schneider, Ocean City (20th); Austin Main, Berlin (22nd); James Parana, Berlin (26th); Samuel Woodley, Ocean City (28th); Tony Prochazka, Berlin (32nd); Cole Roy, Ocean City (33rd); Jessica Reeck, Berlin (34th); Beth Beley-Smith, Berlin (40th); Alex Siegel, Ocean City (43rd); Bill Seig, Berlin (46th); Matt Morrison, Berlin (49th); and Kayla Boring, Ocean Pines (50th).
