OCEAN CITY – It is as simple as giving donations toward Diakonia at Main Street Sweets and you could add a sweet treat to your Thanksgiving table.
Main Street Sweets in Berlin is taking donations for Diakonia, and each donation earns a raffle ticket to win a three-pound chocolate turkey that is valued at $50. The chocolate turkey was produced by Bessinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier out of St. Louis. The drawing will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
“It is for a good cause. It is for a wonderful cause. They are in need,” Main Street Sweets owner Connie Mayers said of Diakonia. “I just think they are special because they reach out to the people, and our community serves them. It is a wonderful thing for them to have a better Thanksgiving than expected, something a little extra special for them.”
Main Street Sweets has fundraised for Diakonia and many other causes in the past.
“This is something special we decided to do for Diakonia because it’s Thanksgiving, and it’s the time for giving,” Mayers said. “The response has been wonderful. We have risen over $100 so far. Every little bit helps … I am so excited about it.”
For more than 30 years, Diakonia has been helping individuals and families in Worcester County and on the Lower Shore by providing shelter, food, clothing and the resources to rebuild their lives.  Located in West Ocean City, Diakonia is the only comprehensive provider of emergency and transitional housing for men, women and families on the Lower Shore.
Diakonia is dedicated to building a foundation for those in crisis or who are homeless while maintaining their dignity and respect, providing hope and assistance and helping them change the direction of their lives, one step at a time.
