BERLIN- Stephen Decatur’s girls’ varsity lacrosse team won the state 3A-2A East region championship on Wednesday, beating visiting Calvert, 18-5, in the fog at home to advance to the state’s Final Four.

The Seahawks wasted no time jumping all over Calvert, scoring its first goal just two minutes into the contest and scoring four in the opening five minutes. Decatur led 6-0 before Calvert got on the board with a goal at the 15:25 mark in the first half. Sammi Quilter scored to make it 7-1 with 11:03 left in the first, then Erin Florek scored on a nice assist from Blair Yesko to make it 8-1. Layla Fowler worked the ball from behind to make it 9-1 with 8:37 left in the first.

The Seahawks took a 13-2 lead into halftime and never looked back, cruising to the 18-5 win to claim the regional championship and advance to the state’s Final Four. Fowler, Florek and Yesko each scored three goals, while Quilter and Bridgette Ardis each added two. The Seahawks will face 3A-2A West Region champion Oakdale on Saturday in the state semifinals.
