Enjoying the Lewes Tulip Festival
Last week, the sun came out and the weather warmed up just enough for us to make the short trek to Lewes to enjoy their 7th Annual Lewes Tulip Celebration. The event, which is slated to run from April 7th until April 16th, is held each spring to celebrate the spring season and the city’s Dutch heritage. The Lewes Chamber of Commerce partners with Lewes in Bloom, the Lewes Historical Society, Lewes Parks & Recreation, the Zwaanendael Museum, and the Historic Lewes Farmers Market to plan and successfully execute the multifaceted event. This year, 15,055 tulips were planted in the City’s parks and at various public locations. More than 100 varieties will be on display over the next week, all of which can be found with the help of the Tiptoe to the Tulips map, which can be picked up at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce. Or enjoy a leisurely stroll through Lewes and revel in the beauty of the thousands of tulips that you will stumble upon.
In 2015, Lewes received top honors as a recipient of one of the America in Bloom national awards. The America in Bloom awards are held in Holland, Michigan each year. Lewes won in the competition category, winning for small towns with populations of under 5,000. Lewes also received special mention for its community floral displays, as well as a top five bloom rating out of a possible five blooms. This year was our first time experiencing the Lewes Tulip Festival, and after a rainy few weeks of spring, the vibrant colors radiating off of thousands of tulips on a sunny day was exactly what we needed.
