Homecoming Week at Salisbury University
Once the temperatures cool and the leaves begin to fall, its time to change gears and don your maroon and gold for Salisbury University’s Homecoming week activities. It’s SU’s Homecoming, which means an array of fun and interactive events are going down all week long. School spirit is a guarantee, along with music, entertainment, games nights and more.
Homecoming kicked off Monday night as Salisbury University held their festive fall pep rally in Maggs Gym. The location proved perfect for the crowds of students whose cheering could be heard echoing across the campus. The event was hosted by Kel Mitchell, one of the actors from the 90’s show Kennan and Kel, who amped up the crowds and boosted the energy.
Tuesday night, students will dress to impress at Game Show Night. This year’s theme is super heroes. Every participant will receive one raffle ticket for attending, two tickets for donning a super hero shirt, and three tickets for dressing up in a super hero costume. Participants can expect a soaring-good time.
On Wednesday, students and alumni will gather for the Big Six Cook Out from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The Big Six is a collection of student run groups on campus that sponsor the event. Free food, music, and activities such as an inflatable obstacle course will be provided for a full-day of entertainment.
Blaring guitars and belting voices will be heard floating through the air on Thursday night. The Battle of the Bands will kick off Thursday night as campus bands put on what will undoubtedly be a stellar performance. Be sure to stick around for some messy competition in the wing eating contest, to be held immediately after the Battle of the Bands.
Friday night, look forward to the Homecoming Pageant in Holloway Hall. Nine spirited senior students will put on amusing performances to showcase their talents and school pride in hopes of becoming Homecoming King or Queen.
The weeks’ Homecoming events will come to a head Saturday, with a day chocked full of fun events. First watch the Homecoming floats travel around town in the Homecoming Parade (beginning at 10:00 A.M. on Wayne Street). Next join in the tailgate at 11:00 A.M. on the intramural fields before the football game begins at 1:00pm. During halftime, watch as the Homecoming King and Queen from the previous night’s performances are announced. As for the rest of the day? Cheer on SU to victory and continue in the celebration all evening long.
This Homecoming is bursting with Sea Gull Pride, and with a few SU alumni and current students here at ShoreBread, we’ll be sure to see you all there!
