Wow. Summer is actually here! We spend all winter day-dreaming about all the revelry that summer brings, and while we have had a fantastic spring here on Delmarva, there is nothing that compares to summertime on the Eastern Shore! The Ocean City, Fenwick, Bethany and Rehoboth beaches fill up with locals and visitors, restaurants overflow with happy patrons, our small towns host outdoor events, and kids enjoy a wide array of summer activities. At ShoreBread, it’s our job to track as many of those events and happenings as we can so that we can share them with you all! June includes a host of awesome activities, ranging from big splashes like the OC Air Show to small town fun like the Berlin High Heel Race. Outdoor movies, blues festivals, classic car shows, parades, hiking and more await…

Wine Pairing Dinner at The Hobbit

When: Monday, June 1, 6pm

Where: The Hobbit Restaurant, 81st Street, OCMD

What: We’re starting the month of June off right, with a wine pairing dinner at The Hobbit! There are still a few spots left for those who are interested in attending. The evening will include seven wine courses and five food courses for $70. If you’ve never been to The Hobbit before, this is a terrific opportunity to sample their amazing wine selection along with their standout cuisine.

Pink High Heel Race

When: Friday, June 5, 6pm

Where: Main Street, Berlin

What: It’s time again for the annual High Heel Race in Berlin, MD! This year’s race includes some added excitement, as Berlin Mayor Gee Williams faces off against Pocomoke City Mayor Bruce Morrison…in high heels of course. The day will also include a Health Fair at the Berlin Visitor’s Center, hosted by Atlantic General Hospital (3pm-7pm), as well as Integrative Health Providers including reflexology, acupuncture, massage and essential oils at Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services.

Blues and Jazz Bash

When: Saturday, June 6, noon-5pm

Where: Downtown Berlin

What: The Berlin Chamber presents the 8th Annual Jazz and Blues Bash on Main Street in Berlin. The event promises to be another fun-filled, family-friendly time in America’s Coolest Small Town, with artists such as Chris English, The Larks, The Shrapnels and Bryan Russo, and the Tragic Figures. Food, craft vendors, and the Burley Oak beer truck will also be on the scene. Admission is free!

National Trails Day: Hike, Cleanup & Paddle

When: Saturday, June 6, 9am-7pm

Where: Pocomoke River State Park

What: Celebrate National Trails Day with a hike though one of our favorite local parks – Pocomoke River State Park! Pitch in while you’re there and participate in the park’s cleanup, starting at 9am. Stick around for the evening paddle at 7pm along the scenic Pocomoke River!

Dashing Divas through Downtown

When: Saturday, June 6, 1pm-5pm

Where: Downtown Salisbury

What: Head to Downtown Salisbury for an afternoon of racing, wine, and fun…all to benefit the Women’s Fund from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. The event includes a Downtown 5K Dash though Downtown Salisbury, a Wine Trail Walking Tour of local establishments, and a Plaza Expo featuring local vendors on display with products and services for women.

Movies at the Beach – Carousel

When: Wednesdays, all summer long, 8:30pm

Where: Beach at The Carousel Hotel

What: Once summer rolls around, we love hitting the beach in Ocean City for FREE movie nights! There are several options, including movies on the beach at The Carousel. This month’s lineup includes Blended (June 3), Big Hero 6 (June 10), Muppets Most Wanted (June 17) and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (June 24). OC Beach Lights

When: Sundays, all summer long, 9:30pm, 10pm, and 10:30pm

Where: Ocean City Boardwalk

What: The OC Beach Lights debuted over Memorial Day Weekend, with two patriotic lights shows along the beach. The spectacular continues all summer long with a visual laser, lighting and special effects show that is visible along the boardwalk in OCMD. Each show is approximately 8 minutes in length and free to viewers.

Longboard Team Challenge

When: Friday June 5 through Sunday, June 7

Where: Beach at 36th-38th Street in OCMD

What: 16 teams of 5 will compete in the three-day surfing event. Fun for participants and spectators, the event also includes giveaways and kids activities on the beach.

Yappy Hour at Brew River

When: Saturday, June 6, 2pm-6pm

Where: Brew River, Salisbury, MD

What: What’s better than happy hour with friends? Happy hour with your four-legged friend of course! Brew River is hosting Yappy Hour to benefit the Humane Society of Wicomico County. Your $5 donation at the door gets your pooch a homemade dog treat. The event also includes red carpet photos, complimentary water bowls, and happy hour drink specials.

4th Annual Kickin’ Wing Fling: Hot Wing Cook Off

When: Sunday, June 7, 1pm-4pm

Where: Pickles Pub, Ocean City, MD

What: Ocean City Happy Hours hosts the 4th Annual Kickin’ Wing Fling at Pickles Pub to benefit the Worcester County Humane Society. Pickles is the reigning champ – come enjoy a sampling of Ocean City’s wings and cast your vote for the next champion. $10 at the door gets you wings from 15 bars and restaurants in Ocean City.

Top Chef of the Culinary Coast

When: Thursday, June 11, 5pm-8pm

Where: Rehoboth Beach Convention Center

What: It’s the ultimate Southern Delaware culinary throw down, as area chefs duke it out for your votes. Sample delicious dishes and vote for your favorites! Tickets sales benefit Meals on Wheels Lewes/Rehoboth. Local chefs will be using Sussex County Farm Fresh Foods.

Movie Night, Downtown Berlin

When: Saturday, June 13, 7pm-9pm

Where: Jefferson Street, Berlin

What: Bring a chair and a blanket and enjoy a free movie in America’s Coolest Small Town! Fittingly, the town is showing Runaway Bride, which was filmed in Berlin. Even better, this event is free!

OC Air Show

When: Saturday and Sunday, June 13 & 14

Where: Boardwalk/Beach in Ocean City, MD

What: The OC Air Show returns! We look forward to this event every year…and for good reason. The high-flying fun lasts all weekend long, with dozens of demonstrations to behold along the beaches in OCMD. This year’s headliners include the Blue Angels! OC Car and Truck Show

When: Saturday, June 13 & Sunday, June 14

Where: Convention Center in Ocean City, MD

What: The second weekend in June is shaping up to be a busy one for Ocean City, with the OC Air Show AND the OC Car and Truck Show. The OC Car and Truck Show returns to the Ocean City Convention Center each year, packing two days of automotive events, interactive displays, and vendors. Tickets are sold at the door. 40th Anniversary Party @ Fager’s Island

When: Tuesday, June 16, 3pm-close

Where: Fager’s Island, 60th Street in OCMD

What: Our friends at Fager’s Island have some serious partying to do during the month of June as they celebrate their 40th Anniversary! Of course the bayside bar and restaurant will be celebrating in style with a massive party on June 16th featuring a pig roast with $4 pig roast platters (3-6pm), and Island Rum Punch Bar, and entertainment by Zion Reggae, The Klassix, DJ Batman and DJ Hook.

Maryland State Firemen’s Association Convention

When: Sunday, June 21 through Wednesday, June 24

Where: Ocean City, MD

What: The Maryland State Firemen’s Association will return to Ocean City this month, with their annual convention for Maryland Fire Rescue Service at the Ocean City Convention Center. The events are open to the public, with exhibits available Monday through Wednesday. The annual parade will roll through town on Wednesday at 1pm with equipment, bands and floats.

58th Annual Old Timer’s Day – Classic Car Show

When: Saturday, June 20, 9am-4pm

Where: Church Street in Selbyville

What: “Hots Rods in Hospice” kicks off Saturday, June 20 in Selbyville, DE with cars, tractors, and emergency vehicles from 1979 and older. The Bo Dickerson Band will be playing, with a community yard sale and a collection of vendors on the scene as well. There is also plenty of fun for the kids, with fire truck rides, pony rides, a moon bounce, arts and crafts and much more! The day’s events will benefit Delaware Hospice.

Seacrets Bacon Fest

When: Sunday, June 21, noon-4pm

Where: Seacrets, 49th Street OCMD

What: Love Seacrets? Love craft beer? Love bacon? If you answered yes to any of these questions (and you should) then mark your calendars for the Jah-Bacon Brew Fest. The event is $35 in advance and $40 at the door and includes a selection of different food items all featuring bacon. Local breweries will also be in attendance, including Evolution, Burley Oak, DuClaw, Dogfish Head and Fordham & Dominion. Ticket includes bacon-centric eats, 10 drink tickets for tastings (two tickets equals one pint of beer), and a souvenir pint glass.

2015 Mid-Atlantic Sea Glass & Coastal Arts Festival

When: Saturday, June 27 & Sunday, June 28 (Sat: 9am-4pm; Sun: 9am-3pm)

Where: Historic Complex at Second and Shipcarpenter Streets, Lewes

What: Enjoy a day of arts, crafts, demonstrations, exhibits and more! Last year, over 5,500 visitors enjoyed the event. Admission is just $5 per person; children under 12 are free. Visit historiclewes.org for more details.

Art’s Alive

When: Saturday, June 27 & Sunday, June 28, 9am-5pm

Where: Northside Park in Ocean City, MD

What: Ocean City’s biggest fine arts show returns for its 15th year, with over 100 artists showcasing and selling their works, lunch at the Artist Café, and free art activities for the kids.

Beach Family Olympics

When: June 23-August 4 (every Tuesday), 6:30pm-8:30pm

Where: Ocean City beach at 27th Street

What: Family Beach Olympics kickoff in Ocean City at the end of June, featuring a variety of contests for all ages including sand castle contests, tug-of-war, and relay races. All activities are FREE, fun for all ages, and fun for the whole family. For more information, call 410-250-0125.
