In 1933, a small ice cream shop emerged on the corner of Wicomico Street & Boardwalk called Alaska’s Stand. The only thing on the menu at the time was a frozen alaska. This was a block of vanilla ice cream on a stick, which was then dipped in chocolate. Later the name was shortened to Alaska Stand.

Soon after the introduction of the Alaska Stand the owners realized that while the tourists visiting Ocean City were enjoying their frozen alaskas, they also were craving a little more refreshment. Fresh fruit juices were added to the menu to quench the thirst of the beach goers!

In the 1950’s, with more and more families visiting Ocean City there became a need for more of a dining option at the beach. So, grilled hot dogs split down the middle and fresh ground hamburgers were added to the menu. In the late 50’s, early 60’s, Coke was added to the menu and the rest is history. The menu has expanded from there.

In 1985 the Alaska Stand moved from its original location across the boardwalk to the pier building. It then moved back to its Wicomico St. & boardwalk home 5 years later.

In 1991 the original family sold the Alaska Stand’s Wicomico Street location to the Cole family. The Cole’s saw a need for more of an indoor dining option, so in 1992 they converted part of the warehouse behind the restaurant into an air conditioned 50’s style dining room complete with black and white checkered tile . In 1998 the Cole’s changed the name to the Atlantic Stand.

In 2006 Rob and Debbie Cole decided to retire and spend more time with their family. The Coles sold the business in December to Brandon and Madelyne Phillips. The Phillips' family are honored to carry on the tradition of the Stand! Brandon and Madelyne Phillips have over 15 years of restaurant and customer service experience. Brandon worked with Dumser's Dairyland for 12 years and Madelyne currently works as a tournament director for the White Marlin Open held anually in Ocean City.

Today, the Atlantic Stand menu has expanded to over 75 items, including fried chicken, seafood and fresh deli sandwiches. Although the menu has expanded the Atlantic Stand is still famous for it’s fresh hamburgers and split down the middle hot dogs.
