Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County, Inc. (HFHWC) announces an annual appeal campaign in honor of the affiliate’s upcoming 2015 20th Anniversary. The “20 Families in 20 Years” appeal is a multifaceted campaign that seeks to raise awareness and funding, create partnerships with area businesses and other nonprofits, and qualify partner families for an additional four home projects.

“This campaign will enable our Habitat affiliate to extend our reach into the community like never before. Instead of the objective being one new build per year, this campaign goal includes critical repair and rehab projects for existing homeowners, “ explained Executive Director, Andrea Bowland.

On average, HFHWC assists families in Worcester County who earn between $22,300 – $43,860, or 30% – 60% of the median income. Work is completed in part through a combination of volunteer labor, family “sweat equity” hours, and community and business support, keeping the construction costs lower. Families then pay back the cost to build or complete repairs at 0% interest loans.

“The ’20 Families in 20 Years’ appeal really brings together all the core elements of Habitat’s mission – building homes and enabling the dream of homeownership empowers families. Stabilizing existing homes through critical repairs makes them safe and revitalizes neighborhoods. Support from volunteers and businesses strengthens the community,” said Bowland.

The affiliate will support the campaign through a number of upcoming fundraisers and events, namely a first-ever Playhouse Build, a family-friendly Hoedown for Habitat event at Hoopers in September, and the annual Holiday Gala for Homes at the Atlantic Hotel in November.

HFHWC is actively seeking partners for this campaign. Businesses interested in sponsoring an upcoming home project or event, those interested in volunteering, and families who wish to become partners for builds or repair projects are encouraged to visit the affiliate’s website: www.habitatworcester.org or email [email protected] for more information.
